In the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region in France, a green transformation is taking place at the BigMat Girardon site in Lentilly. The international chain of independent traders for construction materials, BigMat, has embraced innovation by replacing its diesel forklift fleet with the lithium–ion forklift EFL303S from EP Equipment. This transition in their material handling equipment marks a significant step towards sustainability and efficiency in material handling operations.
Why are lithium-ion forklifts ideal for construction stores?
Cyril Olivieri, director of Olteck & Co., explains why the EFL 3 Series was ideal for BigMat Girardon’s move towards sustainability. The decision to replace the diesel fleet with lithium-ion forklifts was driven by the need for a more sustainable and efficient solution.
Cyril explains, “BigMat Girardon was looking to replace its entire diesel fleet, mainly diesel, with lithium-ion forklifts trucks. I suggested this type of forklift truck equipped with lithium-ion battery – they didn’t know this new technology – and they had the forklift on trial for about a year, and since then they’ve never abandoned it…
They could easily notice the differences from a diesel forklift, and they liked several things about the EFL303S. They could recharge their batteries anytime thanks to the opportunity charge, so that’s an advantage. No more need for refueling, or filling the water like in lead acid batteries. No longer necessary to have a charging room; these are now things of the past.
Above all, compared to the diesel truck they used to have, the EFL 3 series is far superior in every way. What is also interesting is the fact that the truck has a chassis of an IC truck but has a lithium-ion battery, so with a fairly high ground clearance. It looks just like IC forklift, with the added advantage of having a compact counterweight. “

Anthony, forklift operator at BigMat Girardon, shares his experience with the new lithium–ion forklift: “We’ve recently got a new lithium–ion forklift, it’s a significant change from the one we had before. The EFL is a good forklift, you can charge it flexibly and with a socket, which is great and makes the charge even easier.
The lithium battery saves a lot of time because you don’t have to check it regularly or add water. You only need to plug it and you’re good to go.”
