Packo Inox Ltd, part of the Verder Group, a leading manufacturer of pump components based in Diksmuide, Belgium, is embracing innovation with the implementation of EP Equipment’s XP15 Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) in their production facility. The XP15 represents EP’s smart intralogistics solution, mixing the capabilities of an autonomous mobile robot and an electric pallet truck.

The decision of introducing automation

At Packo Inox Ltd, the ethos of continuous improvement drives every aspect of operations. Recognizing the need to enhance efficiency, ergonomics, and overall productivity, the production team embarked on a journey to explore innovative solutions. Upon careful evaluation, it became apparent that many of the daily tasks were repetitive, presenting an ideal opportunity for automation. This realization was particularly evident within the internal logistics and warehouse department, where valuable resources were dedicated to manually moving goods along fixed routes. While essential, these tasks did not contribute directly to the value of the final product. Considering this, the team set out to introduce an AMR as a means of streamlining operations and reallocating resources to more value-added activities.

Thanks to the EP dealer CC Heftrucks, Packo’s Production Manager got to know about the EP’s AMR XP15.

EP’s AMR XP15

The XP15 is the Autonomous Mobile Robot from EP Equipment. It is the perfect tool to improve efficiency and productivity in a warehouse or production facility. Moving goods from point A to point B, this semi-automated pallet truck is the best co-worker to have for support in repetitive tasks. The XP15 is flexible to change application and offers different operating modes: Sushi Bar, Taxi Mode or Bus Stop. The Implementation is easy and can be done in one day, without any need of special IT knowledge, anyone can do it. To satisfy all customers’ needs, like Packo’s, the AMR XP15 also comes with a keypad as an option to allow setting of multiple routes.

The set-up

One thing that differentiates the XP15 from other AMRs in the industry is that it presents as a simple and uncomplex automation tool. With this, we mean that the implementation and set-up are easy and can be done by anyone. Packo’s experience is the proof of it as Wesley, Production Technician working at Packo, could do the installation all by himself. He has implemented the XP15 and has set-up of 10 different routes without needing any support.

Replacing repetitive tasks

Since the AMR XP15 has been introduced at Packo, it has replaced the workers in the repetitive task, which was the A to B transport. This application perfectly reflects the purpose of the XP15, as it is meant to help human workers and not replace them. As the CoBot is taking care of the transport, workers can focus on more valuable tasks; this contributes to an increase of productivity, especially in a big production environment like Packo.

Keypad option for easy multitasking

The inclusion of a keypad option in the XP15 at Packo Inox Ltd elevates the level of flexibility and customization available to users. This feature enables the creation of multiple routes and the assignment of specific tasks with unparalleled ease. For Packo, where the efficient transportation of materials between production stations is crucial, the keypad option streamlines the entire process, making it even smoother and more efficient.

Easy operation leading to improved workflow

At Packo, operators utilize the keypad to effortlessly manage the transportation of goods between production stations. Through a screen, operators can easily identify the goods to transport and the destination station and input the corresponding number on the keypad. For instance, pressing “4” directs the CoBot to drop off the goods at station 4. Once loaded, the XP15 autonomously navigates to the designated workstation, and automatically executes the drop-off.

Running in loop for increased productivity

After completing the task, the XP15 autonomously returns to the starting point, ready to be deployed for the next assignment. This cycle of task execution ensures continuous workflow and minimizes downtime, allowing Packo Inox Ltd to maximize productivity and operational efficiency. With the XP15, Packo Inox Ltd sets a new standard in precision, reliability, and flexibility in internal logistics automation.

The journey of success – Testimonials

Johan Daelmans from CC Heftrucks, EP dealer involved in the implementation, shares insights on the transformative impact of the XP15: “We delivered an autonomous mobile robot here, the XP15. It does a whole route, replaces certain human actions offering a simple and effective solution for automation.”

Stefaan Vanhauter, Production Manager at Packo Inox Ltd, emphasizes the company’s commitment to automation: “Like any modern company, we are fully engaged in automating certain activities.” By automating internal transport with the XP15 AMR, Packo Inox Ltd is paving the way for increased efficiency and productivity in their bespoke manufacturing processes.

Traditionally, automation projects can be time-consuming and prone to challenges. However, with the XP15, Packo Inox Ltd got offered a simple and straightforward AMR solution. Stefaan Vanhauter envisions a future where AMRs like the XP15 become indispensable assets in their production facilities: “This is the first pilot project in terms of internal transport. But because of our bespoke industry, we also have huge flows, and I think if this is a success, we will also pursue further avenues in terms of automating other transports.”

On the way towards a more efficient workflow

In conclusion, Packo Inox Ltd’s adoption of the XP15 AMR signifies a significant step forward in revolutionizing production processes. The Co-bot XP15 matches EP’s philosophy of designing products that simply work, and with a focus on simplicity, versatility, and efficiency, it sets a new standard in automation technology. As industries continue to evolve, AMRs like the XP15 will play a crucial role in driving operational excellence and meeting the demands of modern manufacturing.
